After permits are issued, the contractor will usually need offset stakes so the grading, pipelines and foundations can be located at the correct locations and elevations, matching the approved plans. We may also be asked to set a project bench mark as a reference point. We usually work directly with the contractor to schedule one of our survey crews so we can stay ahead of the construction personnel. We set up the staking in the office to minimize cost to the client and try to place points in the field in locations where they have a good likelihood of being protected for ongoing use during the project.
